It started having a little problem starting lawn mower. It started fine when it is cold, but once it heats up I cannot restart. I had to wait until it cool down. First I thought solenoid switch is bad. I did replaced solenoid switch. It did not help. This year I was trying to start, but it does not make any sound (not even click sound). The battery is good. Do have any idea where I need to start looking to resolve this problem?

The process is the same for all riders,

You will need a volt meter and set it to DC volts
-Check the battery for 12.5 Volts
-Check the cables attached to the battery for the same voltage checking for good connections
-Attach the positive side of the volt meter to the + side of the battery and the negative side to the engine block, Still got 12 Volts? If not the ground from battery is bad.

-Now keep the ground on the negative side of battery
-follow positive cable to the solenoid and hook volt meter on the cable going TO the starter coming from the opposite side of the solenoid.
Turn key to "start" position you should have 12 + volts

YES-Check the same way on the starter motor where the cable FROM solenoid connects, If less or no voltage then cables or connections bad, If good voltage then starter is bad

NO- Take positive lead from volt meter to small wire going to solenoid and test for 12 Volts with key in the "start" position, If no voltage to small wire safety switch is telling it not to crank or ignition switch is bad (rare) If it does have voltage the solenoid needs replacing (common)

I had the same problem and performed your recommended test. Battery is good 12.5 volts, same reading at battery side of solenoid. I am not getting any power to the starter side of the solenoid or the smaller wire from the switch. I have replaced the solenoid and switch. Thinking it was a safety switch I jumped all those but still nothing (on 4 post safety switch I jumped like colors, if these should all be jumped together let me know)

I have tried jumping the solenoid and this will engage starter to flywheel but will not turn over. Then sometimes I get no reaction even no spark at solenoid terminals when jumping?

I have checked grounds at battery and solenoid. Battery is good, performed your test.
To test the ground at the solenoid I put +lead on battery side of solenoid and -lead to ground wire terminal which read 12.5v, good right?
however when I put -lead to top of screw that secures ground lead to solenoid and frame I get no reading. Is this normal? Shouldn't it be grounded as well?

I thought I had a starter problem but after performing your test I thought it would have to be a ground or safety switch issue. PLEASE HELP! I am out of ideas. Thank you!
