    Murray Deck
IMy mower is mowing uneven and I changed the blades and it didn't help. A friend said it may be that the deck is missing a pin or is lose. I can't find the manual for it and Murray doesn't support it anymore. It's a 2000 Model 40508x92. Does anyone have a manual on the deck or a manual on the mower they can scan to me?

    Thanks

Did you know this mower was recalled back in 2003? Here's the info. You may want to contact the number to see if they can assist with the deck problem, too.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    March 4, 2003
    Release # 03-089 Murray Recall Hotline: (800) 876-1634
    CPSC Consumer Hotline: (800) 638-2772

CPSC, Murray Inc. Announce Recall of Riding Lawn Tractors
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Murray Inc. of Brentwood, Tenn. is voluntarily recalling about 270,000 riding lawn tractors. The fuel tank can crack and leak fuel, posing a burn and fire hazard to consumers.

Murray has received 101 reports of fuel tanks leaking. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled lawn tractors were sold under the MURRAY® and STANLEY® brand names and have 38-, 40-, 42-, 46-, and 52-inch cutting decks. The brand name is printed on the front or side of the lawn tractor and the model number can be found on a nameplate under the seat. The following models are included in this recall:

Yes I knew about the recall. Do you know anything about getting a manual for this mower? It was purchased back in 2000.

An idea -- Can't help with the original manual. Would seeing a diagram of the mower help? Sears sold Murray products, and their Repair Service Centers have microfilm and computers with schematics. Go to Sears.com. Top of the page is Customer Service. Then Product Repair Services. Then Locate a Repair Service Center. You can call them with your Murray Serial Number and they can tell you if they can help. Like I said, it was just a thought.

    http://www.outdoordistributors.com/pdf/Murray/MURRAY-MODEL-40508X92A-LAWN-TRACTOR-(2000)-PARTS-LIST.pdf
It's not a manual, but it is an exploded parts list diagram, so it shows how everything goes together and what might be missing. For uneven cutting, you probably just need to adjust the deck. There's a deck leveling notch on the deck height adjustment, pull back the tab covering it where the lever catches the notches, place it to that lowest setting, unscrew the two large wingnuts on either side of the deck, pushe the deck down so it touches evenly all the way around. Now tighten the two black wingnuts, raise the deck, and it should be level.
