John Deere L110 Clicking sound on start - new solenoid, still clicking!
    Hi all,

I cut my lawn, engine was running for about 2 hours. Stopped at neighbors house, cold beer, go to restart, just a clicking sound. Thought battery was dead, did a quick check, good voltage, hooked it up to a charger, good amps. Still clicking. I figure it's the solenoid, picked one up today for $14, install and its still clicking. Now I am thinking it's the starter.

Is there a way to test the starter to know if it is good or bad?

What else could cause the solenoid to click if its new, and battery is good?

I was going to hook up the positive directly to the starter to see if it spins, not sure if that is the correct method to test or not, so will not screw around with it.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

I'll answer my own question :-)

I hooked up the positive directly to the starter and it would spin, however it was stuck in the up position. I used some white lithium grease to loosen it up, then reinstalled and she started like a charm. Kind of like going back to the old days and knocking the side of a starter with a hammer on the stang!
