I have a John Deere L110 that's about 3 years old and it does not want to run it has little or no power and back fires a lot when it finally does start. I have tried the kohler carburetor rebuild kit with no luck

What diagnostics did you perform to determine carb problems? Have you replaced plugs, air filter and fresh fuel. Also a twin cylinder will start and run fairly smooth with one cylinder down, it may be a little hard to start and would pop a little.

With it running disconnect a plug wire and if it dies the other cylinder is not firing, if no change then that cylinder is not firing and if it has a definite change in tone both cylinders are firing.
