Start by removing the drive belt between the deck and the engine. Lower the unit an inspect the route of the belt. It goes around each blade arbor, around the drive pulley, an idler and the moveable pulley that engages the blades. The idler and moveable pulley is spring loaded and can be pulled back to give you room to peel the belt off one pulley. There are keeper pins around the blade pulley to keep the belt from jumping, tight but you can peel/roll the belt past the keeper.
