Sears overcharges.... go to a small engine shop and pick up a carb kit, with diapragm and gaskets (even the carb to engine gasket) and take the carb apart (and pics along the disassembly for reference) and soak it in carb cleaner for a couple hours... then blow it out with compressed air. You'll have to remove the High and low speed mixture needles (more then likely marked H and L, make sure you get them back in the right spot) they are set from all the way in snug, one turn out as a baseline. Fine tune when you get it started.
Did you replace the fuel filter in the tank (bobs on the end of the fuel line) ?
