Craftsman LT 1000 42 inch deck
I replaced the drive belt and a pulley that were broken. Now it will not move. It is an automatic. What actually makes the tractor move. The belt turns but doesn't go anywhere.
Thanks

You didn't post the actual model number so I could look it up at www3.sears.com.
The belt could be routed improperly or could be the wrong size.
Many times there is something that places tension on the belt causing it to drive either permanently or activated by some other means.

KISS is describing the spring loaded tensioner pulley and I'm betting you skipped it or put your belt on the wrong side of it. What pulley was broken and did you buy an OEM belt from Sears? I have this same tractor and I sure hope you have better luck than I've had so far. I have the 20 hp Vtwin and have had to replace the coil and now the carb in just two years.

I got the belt from the sears site. The pulley was right in the middle and bolted up into the motor area. I did route around the tention pulley. No engine problems so far.

If you have the belt routed properly it will be loose when the cltch/brake is depressed and tight when the clutch is out.

Yes, that is how it is. Do you think transmission problem maybe?

OK if the belt is tight when the clutch is out and the belt and pulleys turn and you are still standing still then you may have a transmission problem. Is this your case?

Yes, that is the case. Any tips on what to do or look for?

Sorry but I have not worked on this automatic. At this point the only suggestion would be to check the shift linkage adjustment to be sure the trans drops into gear when you move the selector. I doubt my own suggestion because this unit was working correctly before the belt broke. If you replaced with the correct OEM belt the adjustment would not change. Maybe Mowerman will pick this up and have additional advice.

Hello all I have a similar situation, mine is still moving (for the most part), but just barely. I will move forward then just stop motion all together. Sometimes it will keep moving, but is really herky jerky (like traveling in a car at 5mph and hitting the brake real hard and then the gas and back and forth). It will stay moving forward in either 1st or 2nd gear however it jerks a little. So I replaced the drive belt, fuel filter, and plug in it last night. Still with the same results. My tractor never seems to "loose power" I just stop moving. I use my tractor all year to both cut grass and plow snow from my driveway. It seems like something with the clutch, transmission or gears. Any thoughts? I need to get this fixed. It is almost the same move as above, but I have the manual 6 speed transmission. Green 42Inch deck LT 1000.

Had that happen on my LT1000. I had changed flat tire and there is a pin that fell out. If that pin is not in, the tractor won't move.

Which pin? Where was it at? It is very possible that a pin fell out on mine as I "run into" snow piles with it while plowing.

Hi - Auto transmission - check that the AXLE is rotating. If you have removed a wheel, the drive pin may have dropped out resulting in no drive to that wheel. Since the transmission includes a diff, that means no drive at all. If the axle is NOT rotating, check that you haven't accidentally opened the hydrostat dump valve (the control that you use to disconnect the trans if you want to push the tractor).
Manual transmission mentioned above - gear teeth missing on main drive pinion inside transmission. Complete stripdown or replacement required.

Check that you've not accidentally activated the hydrostatic dump valve - that's the control that you use to dis-engage the drive if you want to push the tractor.
