I boke the primary belt on my murray 17 hp 42 inch mower and I cant seem to remember how it went on,please help.

Murray has a parts distributor out of MA that can help. Murphy's Power Equipment. Call 800-985-0178. They'll charge for the manual but have all the belts etc.

You can also try looking on the ordertree.com website if you have the model number of the mower (not the engine) - there are a lot of parts manuals you can view on line for Murray mowers

Hi,
Generally, come off the engine sheave to the engagement idler to the right blade sheave across the back to the left blade sheave and back to the engine sheave.
Incidentally, the manual shows this and is available online. Get the numbers needed from under the seat or on the rear of the frame. Full parts breakdown available.
