Another 16HP Briggs Stratton Problem with oil
I over oiled my 16HP briggs. I looked online for some help and changed the sparkplugs and oil. The tractor still runs, but I get white smoke out of the exhaust. Will the smoke "burn Off" or should I replace the exhaust. The engine is a 402700 B&S from 1988. Looking for some answers. Thank you.

    16hp briggs... 48 ounces (or 1.5 quarts)

What happens is simply the breather (lets internal crankcase pressure out) spits up the excess.. this in turn will get in the carb, and most of the time the air filter.. check and replace the air filter if it has any oil on it...
How long have you run the engine? Usually it'll be done burned off within 5 minutes... If it hasn't within 30, yeah it's a good chance you may have broke the oiling ring on the piston then...
Just to be sure, make sure the oil doesn't smell heavily with gas.

Usually the "white smoke" is fuel vapor when it gets hot. Oil of course burns blue.
Are there just a lot of people overfilling their 16hp briggs or is it the infamous fuel leaking past the needle in the carb? I think the latter.

Drain the crankcase of oil and the inevitable fuel and refill, doing this a couple times to get the fuel out.

Should burn off eventually but you probably have to change the plug or plugs once or twice more, if there is an oil filter on the engine and I doubt there is, change it also.

People overfill them all the time...
And from many engines (well some were flipped, some overoiled the air filter...
    The smoke may look white...

Yes, good point... but usually you can just clean them and they are fine...
But plugs are cheap... if its been a while since they were replaced... good time to do it.
