17hp briggs & stratton bolens lawn tractor will not start?

Recently purchased a Bolens lawn tractor w/ a 17 hp briggs and stratton. It does not have spark. Have put in a new plug with no results. Need suggestions what to try next. Thanks!

Check the spark plug wire for trouble. Check battery condition or recharge it if necessary or replace it if old. Check inner lock switches and wiring, replace faulty switches or wiring. Check starter connections and operation. Clean connections, oil starter. Make sure the throttle is in choke or fast position. Check your owners manual. Check engine for possible mechanical problems.

How long ago did you buy? You should take it back to where you bought it and have them refund or exchange it if it was new. If it was a used unit, you are stuck and will have to pay for service yourself.

Remove the blower housing to gain access to the coil (armature magneto) and disconnect the small black wire from the side of the coil. Check for spark then. If you have spark, the coil is firing and you have a short in the kill wire. Let me know what you find.
