14.5 yard machine riding lawnmower

I have a 14.5 hp yard machine mtd riding lawnmower that I cannot get started, I disconnected and removed the battery over the winter the other day I reinstalled battery and when I turned the key I herd the clicking or grinding noise near the rear axle transmission area, when I went to move it I had also notice that the wheels were locked does anyone have any ideas on this one??
