Loose = Not secured, free

Example: My psycho girlfriend has a screw loose and is consequently a loose cannon I cannot tolerate anymore so I'm setting her loose.

Lose = Fail to keep, sustain, or maintain

Example: He's a total loser, so I'm going to lose him pronto because I'm really not losing anything.
