what is the space above the stage called?

my question is ... what is the space above the stage called?

in a theatre you have the stage and then you have space on either side of the stage for people to come on ... then you have all the space above the stage where a lot of lighting and sound technology is stored, sometimes they even lower things from this space onto the stage ...

also what is the name of the side area either side of the stage?

Hi again, Film_Fanatic!

I'm curious as to why you asked the original question, please?

Thanks!

i am doing the international baccalaureate atm and i do Theatre Arts as a subject. anyway for one of the projects we have to create a full performance pitch portfolio ... and in my proposed performance i have sets that are mechanically maneuvered on and off stage and i needed to know what to call the fly gallery (as i now know it is called)

So, are you supposed to work with a situation where there's a fly gallery?

Thanks!
