Jesus Christ Superstar

I've just seen the 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar, and was wondering how similar to the original Broadway production it is. For example, was the original set in the first century AD, or in modern times like the film?

Thanks
Captain O

Hi Captain O. Like your kitty avitar!

The movie was adapted from the play. It was set in "modern times". The only differences of course, where the scenes outdoors. Otherwise, the movie stayed pretty true to the play.

Have a good night!

except for the fact that ted neeley (sp?) was AWESOME live and so-so on screen.

i saw him do the 20th or 25th anniv tour... man... it was absolutely breathtaking. the guy hit notes that made you shiver. it just didnt translate to the screen.

Hey KP! I never saw Ted Neeley perform it live. I saw the original production on Broadway when I was a kid. The lead actor in that show wasn't in the movie and I can't remember his name off the top of my head. But, I do remember Ben Vereen (sp?) as Judas. He was amazing!

I have no idea, but my mom just went to see it last week on Sunday and she LOVED it! She kept talking about it. My mom is very picky when it comes to broadway, so saying she loved it means something!
