TV Not Showing Picture

Toshiba TV model#CF20D40 27": I have failed to program it to show a picture, or work with cable. Cable wire enters VCR, then from VCR into Radio Shack adopter, then from adopter into TV. I lost the remote control long ago. A few days ago I had programmed it correctly but then I messed it up again. Please help.
