MASH TV Show question. HELP!!

can anyone help me?? during the being credits on the MASH show. When they show the helicoptor flying over they show Radar. Does anyone know what he was holding in his hands during this.

For some reason I wanna say it was a basketball or a football. I think they were interupted by the helicopter while they were playing a game.
