Philips 29pt8836 TV picture trouble?

i see jagged moving lines at the edges while playing dvds or the cable, but that happens sometimes only, other times its clear.when i tried pressing the component cable to check if its fitting well into the tv,the lines disappeared but it came back again,i think thats just a coincidence. But thats with dvd player on,i get those lines sometimes with the cable tv too.help.

I found out that this is probably the stairstepping effect (Stairstepping -- The jagged appearance of diagonal lines or edges inherent to the use of scan lines or pixels to make up a picture.).if so how will i ckear it.
