I am getting ready to start my fifth year of teaching. However, I do not enjoy teaching. I actually work on a great team and in a great school. As hard as I have tried, I just do not like teaching. I work all the time and stress over my job constantly. I try to take a step back and relax, but all these years I find myself more and more just wanting to quit. I used to love at least being with kids, but now I find myself wanting to run when I see one. I don't want to feel this way. I know I need to stop teaching. I have a MA in teaching. What other viable career routes might I take? I have sent our some resumes to HR departments last year to no avail. Is there any type of job that they would see me as well qualified for having been a former elementary teacher? Thanks!

You are not alone.....many teachers leave within the first five years.

What about a different position within the school district? Curriculum Specialist....Math/Science Coach....whatever your district might call such positions where you would go in and support the teachers, maybe conduct miniworkshops, etc.. Perhaps teaching education courses in a community college to adults who are working on becoming teachers. I know a couple of teachers who have gone into working with virtual education. They still "teach", but it is all online from their homes. Any thoughts of trying to work for one of the text book companies...introducing districts to new resources for adoption?

These would give you the opportunity to stay within the rhealm of education, but not have the day to day aspect of working with the kids.

Some business positions will look favorably on a degree and work experience in education. They know it obviously takes tremendous organizational and communication skills.
