I am a non resident alien on an F1 visa for three years now. I file taxes as an independent since my wife and other two kids are on F2 visa.
Now I had a baby girl in the states on august 29. I knew that I still have to file as a non resident alien and cannot claim her as a dependent. I also knew that I can have a child tax credit for her despite my status.
Now my question is:
What does a child tax credit mean? Is it a $1000 that I get as a refund??
How can I claim this tax credit?
