Taxation in India for 2006-07

Given below is my situation for 2006-07

April-06 to Oct-06 : India company payrolls
Nov-06 till July-07 : Transfered from India payrolls to US parent company payrolls

Taxes
-------

1. April-06 to Oct-06 : Taxes paid in India
2. Nov-06 to Dec-06 : Taxes paid in the US. Completed tax amount refunded
3. Jan-07 to Mar-07 : Taxes paid in the US. No refund received

I plan to stay in the US till end of July-07 (more than 182 days). I shall hence not receive complete refund of my taxes paid in the US.

How do I get tax credit for my taxes paid in the US, so that I could file my tax returns in India without getting into double taxation issues

Regards,

Nikhil

Nikhil:

You will need to file a dual-status tax return for 2007. Under this return, you will be taxed only on income earned while in the U.S.
