Tax Exemption for living in NJ working outside NJ

Hi

I am a regional salesperson, live in NJ and travel extensively outside of the state of NJ. I have heard that you can apply to be exempt from paying taxes in NJ if you live in the state but spend so much time outside of the state.
Is this correct?
How do I go about claiming this status?
How is this monitored?

Appreciate advice and answers to the above and other useful info or websites.

AtlantaTaxExpert Tax Expert Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Atlanta, Georgia Posts: 10,330	I have never heard of such an exemption in any state, much less a high-tax state like NJ. However, a phone call to the NJ Department of Revenue should get you an answer.
