Stay in US less than 183 days, any tax advantages?

My company headquarter is in CA, I am an employee of its NJ branch. Usually, I pay NJ state tax every year. After 05/10/2008, I move to branch of my company in other country. But all my salary and relation stay the same in NJ. That is because the company may expect me to return after some time.

Now I am filing my tax return, I don't know if there is any advantage I can take for my federal and state tax return.

In my common sense, I guess US will ask for the same amount as usual. BTW, I can file for resident or non-resident for year 2008 (this is my 5th year stay in 2008).

Assuming you are a H-1, H-1B or L-1 visaholder, the income earned in the other country is EXEMPT from U.S. taxes. You will need to file a dual-status return to get the beneift of this exemption.

If you need professional help to either file or amend your 2008 return, email me at [email address].
