Hi, Chuck. I was going to have it show I owe but not pay.
-
Hi. I have a return this year where I will owe money. Part of it is for the no healthcare fee. However, I am not going to pay that portion. Does anyone know if that's possible through software...

Hi, guys. I found they are taking 7.5% of the gross, not taxable gross. I think that's why it says FICA alternative, but I don't recall ever signing up for it.
-
So, 7.5% works out, but I wonder why I would want 7.5% when you can get 6.2%.
-
My gross is 1375.38. Taxable gross is 1272.23. FICA was 103.15. Fed Med was 19.94.
-
Well, they told me these numbers:
Medicare is 1.45 % of gross and the alternative tax (Bencor) is 7.5 % but Bencor is deducted before the withholding is calculated so there is a little tax...
-
Hi. Here is a portion of my paycheck: http://duke3d.org/fica.png
I thought FICA was 6.2%, but it seems higher in all my checks. Do you know how they might have calculated the numbers on this...
-
Cool. Do you mean if I import last year's return, or even if I don't it somehow looks me up in TurboTax's database?
-
I don't recall my pin from last year. I used TurboTax, and not sure where to look. So, I see I can use last year's AGI instead. Is the amount TurboTax lists accurate? To be sure, here is last...

I help paid the phone bill various years for my mom and dad, but it's not in my name, so if I try to get the tax refund, will they just reject it or will it mess up my whole return?
-
My program doesn't pick up on this as far as a refund. Do you not get back any of the medicare tax withheld? Also, Atlanta Tax Expert, if they agreed I was exempt from FICA, are you also exempt...
-
Yeah, I found them all easy, but I like TaxAct now since it's free. I found the difference too, it was basically each program picks up on the EIC at a different time, so I wasn't following all the...
-
Hi. I'm getting a corrected W-2 form since my original numbers had to change due to a refund the employer owed me. I am using TaxAct online, but don't see anywhere inside it where it asks about the...
-
Hi. I made like $5 dollars or less of interest throughout the year in my checking account. I'm not sure if it was taxable though, and there are a few boxes to fill out on this 1099INT that I don't...
-
Cool. Thanks for all the info. I'll let you know if my school doesn't do that FICA refund.
-
Actually, some places online seem to agree with yours. But, when I looked back at TaxAct, it just automatically said I get the EIC. So, I'll just go with it. Will it hurt me if it's somehow not...
-
Don't worry Chuck, not a silly question at all. I wanted to compare the ease of use of each.
-
Yes, it was that EIC thing. But, these programs are telling me I had to be at least 25 at the end of 2006. I am 25 now. You're saying I have to be 26 though?
-
Yes, checked all that. I'm entering the same info on each one, but not necessarily the correct numbers. Do you think you can tell what any of the W2 boxes will be from my last check here?
...
-
I decided to make this a new thread. I don't know why, but using the same W2 info, TurboTax says I get $135 for a refund, TaxCut says $174, and TaxAct says $440. What's with the big disparity?
-
Is it possible to figure out the boxes on your W2 from your last paycheck? If so, do you know some of them from mine (no revealing info is shown)?:

Yeah, that's what I figured. It's weird though, I compared Turbotax and Taxact. One says I get $440, one says I get $135. Same info in both.
-
Thanks. I am wondering something about FICA. Does it factor in to my return that I get? You think I should wait to see if they refund me before doing my tax return?
-
Hi, thanks for replying. I am not a foreign student. I was working as a mentor at FSU at the time. I will ask them for a refund first.
-
Hi. I notice during the spring semester of 2006, FICA was being extracted out of my paycheck. At the time, I was a half-time, degree-seeking student at FSU. Is it possible to get this money back...
