Is relocation bonus tax deductible when commuting from home?

Hello all. I have a quick question.

I live in NJ and took an internship in NYC during the summer last year. The company gave me $3,500 of "Relocation bonus", which were included in my W-2 and taxed. The company also mentioned that it could be tax deductible.

My question is: since I did not "relocate" per se (I was commuting from my home address) can I get some of the taxes back? I guess not, but just wanted to run it by an expert here.

Thanks.

Your compnay was probably talking about deducting moving expenses. Some of your costs for moving may be tax-deductible, if the move is for employment reasons and the move was at least 50 miles. But since you didn't move, you can't take advantage of this.
