refiling taxes

first off, here is some info on me:
I came to US in 2002 as a student on F-1, i graduated in june 2006 and worked from june2006 until august of 2007 under TN status. I am now a grad student under F-1 since august 2007.
during years 2002-2005 i filed 1040NR

here is my question: I think that I filed my taxes incorrectly last year; I filed 1040A because i thought i was a resident through the substantial presence test. I now think that this is incorrect because I was not supposed to include days as a student in substantial presence test. Is this correct?
If this is correct, I beleive that I need to refile my taxes for 2006 using a 1040NR, is it possible to do this using 1040X?

thanks in advance,
-b

Yes, for 2006 you will file From 1040X and properly done nonresident tax return will word AMENDED on the top.

For 2007 file resident tax return.

ok, so i just fill out 1040X, as well as the correct 1040NR with the AMENDED written across the top right?

you say i should file resident for 2007, but I am currently a student on F-1, that should be NR shouldn't it?

also, another question or two:

Can I deduct medical expenses ($3500 for Lasik) when using a 1040NR for 2006?

Also, can I take the federal telephone excise tax credit on my 1040NR for 2006?

thanks so much!
