Question about property taxes in CA

If I buy a house for $600,000 in California, my mother's Dad said that the property taxes will be $9000. Is this true? Is it the same for townhomes or condos?

TheCaliforniaLife:

You need to contact the state taxing authority to determine the millage rate for the location in which you are contemplating your purchase.

Once you have the millage rate, then it is simple math to determine what your property tax will be.

Of course, you can also simply ask the seller what they pay in property taxes.
