Moving Expenses question

So, I am trying to e-file at Taxact.com

I worked from jan 2006 in NJ, and got promoted and moved to philly on dec 1st 2006.

My employer paid for my moving expenses upfront, but I think I spent about $300 more than he gave me.

When I enter this difference in my e-file, my refund increases considerably.

I know I spent that, but I do not have any proof. Would it be wise to go ahead and enter that amount? Specially since I dont have proof? Please advise!

Also any advise on which is a good website to e-file?

Not ALL expenses for a move is deductible. You cannot deduct the costs of breaking a lease, the meals during the move, the extra trips to Philly to house or apartment hunt, or the fees for starting and stopping utilities.

The only things you CAN deduct are the actual trips expenses (rental truck, mileage, cost to move and store household goods, etc.

I prefer TaxAct as a tax website. I use their professional software.

how did you pay the extra 300.00. by cash or credit card or debt card? if you used either, the receipts and cancelled check are tracable. I usually use h/r block's web site. I feel most comfortable with them. good luck in your new job.

The credit card and debit card receipts are better than nothing, but the IRS may not accept them as positive proof unless there some clear indication that the money was moving expense-related.
