more details about filing state tax return for NJ resident working in NY

Thanks for the answer from Delite. However, I am a little confused. Should I have to pay both NJ and NY taxes?

No. You will pay NY taxes. Since NY tax rates are higher than NJ and since NJ normally gives a dollar-for-dollar credit, the result is NO NJ taxes are due.

You STILL have to file the NJ tax return.
