Lives in New York works in New Jersey

Hello,
Can someone help me with a tax question ? Here goes:

I work in NJ but lives in NY. MyFederal wages and NY wages are the same....lets say $57,440.45. My NJ wages is higher than both....let's say $$58,536.35 On the NJ1040NR, what wages goes under the column "Gross income from everywhere"? Is it always the higher wages?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume the $1,100 difference between NY and NJ is for work done in NJ instead of NY.

If your TOTAL income is your NJ wage of $58,536.35, then THAT amount is what you put under "Gross income from everywhere".

However, if you had two different jobs, one that paid the $58K+ for Nj and the other that paid $57K+ from NY, then add the two figures together and put the sum under "Gross income from everywhere".

I have the same problem, the NJ state wage box 16 or something came up higher than the federal wage in box 1 on my 2nd W-2(the one from NJ), I was also confused and wanted to ask about that. T
