Is a J2 visa holder exempted from tax?

Hello
I am a J1 visa holder from China, working as postdoc research fellow. Currently how many years can a J visa holder be exempted from tax? As J status has been extended to a total of 5 years, is there a corresponding extension for the period for tax exemption?
My husband is now working in a company with EAD based on his J2 status. Is he qualified for tax exmeption as well?

Normally a J1 visa holder Professors, Teachers, and Researchers at an accredited university or other recognized educational institution the United States are exempt for taxes for two years. If they stay for more than 2 years they must pay taxes including taxes for the exempt years.

What is exact rule for persons from China depends upon the Tax Treaty.

The China tax treaty does not change this particular provision of the law. If you will be on the J-1 for more than two years, you will lose your tax exemptions.
