J1 / H1B visa - Resident or non resident

Hi I have a question regarding the State taxes.
I've worked in the same company in 2007.
I was an intern from 1/1/07 to 10/1/07 with a J1 visa (non resident) and then I've been hired and been given a resident visa H1B from 10/1/08 to the end of the year.
I would like to know if I should fill lmy States taxes as a resident or a non-resident.

I've heard that under 180 days as a resident, I'm still considered as a non resident but I just want to make sure.

Thank you!!

If you started on H1-B on 10/1/07, you will file your 2007 return as nonresident.
