hi
my employer has wrongly withheld my local income tax for some other county rather than the one i am living in. what are the implications for these? my w2 also shows the wrong county. what should i do? i have not received any final return from county office too?
please help
regards
First , was it intentional on his part. He now has to fill in and correct your W2s for all governmental agencies.
This is not something you can or should offer to do for him. This is a core record screw up that has to be fixed prior to you being able to file your taxes.
Don't be unpleasnt but drop this on his desk and say fix and file the correct paper work because on Monday (?) I'm calling the state to find out if they have the correct information.
You need NOT be so confrontational with your employer, as that is a GOOD WAY to get fired!
However, your employer does need to fix the problem for the upcoming year.
As for 2007, file a county tax return for the WRONG county and get the money refunded. Then file with the CORRECT county and pay the tax. If you attach a letter explaining the problem, the county should waive all interest and penalties.
