Address in W2

Hi All,

In my W2 form, my address is different from my current address. Someone told me that address in both W2 and 1040 should be same. Does it really make any difference? or can I put my new address which doesn't match with address mentioned in W2?

Thank you
Vikas

you can just make sure that your address on your 1040 is right.

So do you mean that its not necessary to have the same address in 1040?

It is not necesary to have the same address on your W-2 as your 1040. The IRS uses social security numbers to match up your W-2 with your tax form, not the address. The address on the 1040 is where they will send any correspondence, so make sure it reflects your correct mailing address.
