1) File Form 1040NR for the federal return, as you will likely want to claim moving expenses on Form 3903. You will also need to file CA and AZ tax returns. You can get the forms off the state government websites.

2) Combine the W-2s for the federal return. Pay taxes to CA only on income earned in CA and pay taxes to AZ only on income earned in AZ.

3) CINTAX for the federal. I prefer TaxAct for the state returns.

4) Read the instructions carefull before starting.

Yes, you will need to file the state software for TaxAct.

You MAY want to try the on-line version of TaxAct. It's probably cheaper than buying teh software.

Atlanta Tax expert...
I was trying to fill my CA 540NR form myself manually.
http://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/06_forms...?refresh=73744

On line 13, Enter the federal adjusted gross income from FORM 1040NR EZ. When i filled federal taxes online through CINTAX, it gave me the AGI of CA and AZ's income. Why should i pay taxes to CA on income earned in AZ?
what should i fill up on this line 13? whatever is there on the 1040NR EZ that i filled.
I feel i am paying taxes unnecasarily on CA tax.
Please advise.
thank u
