F1->H1. standard deduction?

Hello Tax experts,

I'm an indian student on OPT till otober and then converted to H1. single, no dependents. Can some one clarify my assumptions.

I can fill 1040NR EZ form as non resident?
I don't have to file dual status tax?

Can I use the standard deduction (5150) under Indian student category? I'm on on F-1 only till october.

AtlantaTaxExpert Tax Expert Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Atlanta, Georgia Posts: 9,674	Yes, you CAN claim the standard deduction under the Indian Student category. Do not forget to file the Form 8843 one last time. For 2007, you will file as a resident alien, filing Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ.
