Claiming Double taxation between USA & India

Hi,
I came to usa in oct 2006 from india. From oct 2006 to MArch 2007 my company deduct taxes in both USA and INDIA. I am planning to ask for a double taxation releif in USA on the amount I have been double taxed when I will file my return in January 2008 - is that possible? Also if yes in jan-2008 can I claim for tax refund on the tax deducted in 2006-2007 financial year. please help

Yes. You can claim a foreign tax credit using Form 1116.

You needed to claim that credit for Oct 2006 to Dec 2006 on your 2006 tax return which you probably just filed.

so is there any way I can claim that - maybe now filing Form 1116 seperately or while submitting 2008 return.

No, you will need to amend your return using Form 1040X and attach Form 1116 to the Form 1040X.
