I'm searching for a good high school study abroad program. I'm looking for programs that:
1. Have academic year AND semester programs(or at least academic year)
2. Are around or under $10,000.
3. Have excellent credentials.
4. Offer programs in England.
Pretty basic stuff, I know. I've looked at AYUSA. But a semester in England would be $18,000-$19,000, which I can't afford. Also they've cancelled their academic year and semester programs to England. But they're still accepting aplications.
I'm also looking at ASSE, which appears to be very inexpensive($7,000-$8,000). However, it's website is rather hard to navigate.
I'm not even bothering with TWU(Two Worlds United) anymore, after hearing that it is a scam.
The only other option would be to go my senior year. That would be quite odd, graduating from a high school in a different country. But then again, I plan to attend college in England, so maybe that would be a good thing. I'm about to e-mail ASSE and ask about their semester programs.
good luck with your study abroad experience....though I didnt get to go to TWU because they messed up everything I wish someone a good study abroad experience so good luck
i dont understand whats the problem going on here ,if some one got the same issue or problem.....................its always wise to let some one pour their heart out n discuss their problems on the common platform.............but some poepl here do got problem................:-(

Have you looked into AFS or AIFS??? Sometimes it is helpful to go directly to the source. Research some schools in England that you are interested in attending. Contact them directly and see which programs they support.

Check the CSIET website Home Page for their recommended organizations.
I recently signed on with ASSE as a temporary host family for an exchange student from France. The term was only supposed to be for 1 month but ended up being at least 6 weeks because they couldn't find a permanent placement for her. During the 1-month "orientation" program, the local ASSE rep was fired and the program went into chaos. The replacement was a joke and made more empty promises on behalf of ASSE to the students and their host families. ASSE is currently being investigated by the Department of State here in the United States.
I would HIGHLY recommend that you check out the Committee for the Safety of Foreign Exchange Students website (csfes.org). They have some great tips for choosing an exchange agency and may have some other resources for using an exchange program abroad.
From my experience and observation, I would say steer clear of ASSE. As for CSIET, members of these exchange programs actually serve on their Board so you can imagine whose interest they have at heart. Check out CSFES, talk to other students who have been there and done that, ask the exchange agency tough questions and get your answers in writing. If they won't put it in ink, keep on looking.

I would strongly recommend Youth for Understanding. I did a summer homestay in Yawatahama Japan during high school and had a great time. The scholarship covered my international airfare and domestic travel, so pretty much all I had to furnish was emergency and spending money. I learned tons about Japanese culture and still keep in touch with some of the friends I made.
