How do i calculate a payperiod in excel

This is a head scratcher for me,

i got this to calculate a pay period from a start date and from todays date which just divides the number of days with the INT.

=IF(C5="","",INT((C5-StartDate)/14))

This works great for paying every two weeks, but my buddy wants to pay twice a month, the middle of the month and the last day of the month. When they enter their hours in, i need it to calculate the payperiod, which would be 24 pay periods a year. With the months all having different amount of days this is tricky to me.
Got any ideas?
