OK, this is a strange problem. I am not a novice.. I know Excel quite well but I have encountered this issue.

So when I open this file (File A) maximized, it is fine. However, for this particular part of my job, I need 2 excel files open at the same time.

So I stretch Excel out across my dual monitors and minimize the individual files so they are 2 instances of Excel files viewable in the same Excel program.

However, ONE of these files somehow ended up in the high left hand corner of Excel... so far up that I cannot access the top bar (of THAT file alone) in order to move it around the blank Excel screen.

When I stretch the top of the program up, the file follows... when I stretch the left side of the program left, the file follows. I cannot see a way to access the top bar so I can position it where I want?? Lol it seems so silly but I can't seem to figure it out. Here is a screen shot so you know what I mean.

(BTW, I know that I could open up TWO instances of Excel and open one file maximized in each so they are both viewable but I don't want to do that. I want to figure out how to solve this issue)

So you can see that the file on the left side is way to far up... no matter how I resize the over all Excel program, it is not accessible...

Any ideas? I don't even know how it got up there. I do this same process every month with the same file

Interesting. I haven't done much with dual displays so here's a stab in the dark. I'm not sure of the exact order you do things, so I would switch it up a bit. If you open both files and then stretch Excel, try stretching Excel first and then open the two files. Try opening the file on the left in the right window first full-screen and then minimize. If it's movable, then move it to the right screen.

Sorry, that's about all I can think of.

Try rightclicking on the window and see if there is a Move choice. Then use the cursor keys to move it dow n to where you can see the titlebar.

Yeah, I have tried opening it in various orders & positions. Regardless, every time this file opens (whether I open it full screen or not) it is still always positioned in the far upper corner like that.

I've also attempted the Move option. I can select it from the task bar but when I do, my cursor jumps to the top of the screen with an outline of the little rectangle (similar to the size of the taskbar item). However, no matter where I place this and hit Enter, nothing seems to happen.

If I try to access the Move option anywhere else in Excel, I am not given the option... unless it is referring to the entire instance of Excel... in which case, it moves the whole program and the file itself says in the relevant position.

Im pulling my hair out... I encounter bigger problems than this on a daily basis and have never felt so stuck.. and it is SUCH a silly little problem :confused:

I know the work around for it... but still, it's becoming a matter of principle! :cool:

Can you try the keyboard shortcut to maximize (whatever that is)?

EUREKA!! Thanks ScottGem... you got me to look into keyboard shortcuts. I found these two on Microsoft:

• ALT+SPACE: Displays the main window's System menu (from the System menu, you can restore, move, resize, minimize, maximize, or close the window)
• ALT+- (ALT+hyphen): Displays the Multiple Document Interface (MDI) child window's System menu (from the MDI child window's System menu, you can restore, move, resize, minimize, maximize, or close the child window)

The first one give the command box for the Excel Program itself (the parent window. However, the SECOND one offers the same command window (Move, Maximize, Minimize, etc) for the Excel FILE (child window). So when I selected Move, I was able to move it with the arrows down into position!!

*sighs* I can finally sleep at night...
