Elvis Song

This may be an easy one for you Elvis fans! I heard one of his songs recently and can't find the name of it. It's a fast paced song, definetly one of his quickest. He rattles off several towns names as if he is traveling quickly thru them. The song sounds like a blend of rock and country. This isn't one of his biggest hits but anyone who knows Elvis' music well should know this one. I feel like this song was done later in his career, maybe in the late 60's or 70's. No one around me knows the name of this darned song! Help is appreciated!

I'm not recalling it with just that. Can you name 2-3 of the towns named in the tune?

I can't remember the cities but I believe he mentions the states of Oklahoma and Kentucky. I originally looked for his songs w/ the title of Kentucky in it but had no luck w/ those. None of them fit this song. I do know this song is a relatively fast paced one. I don't know who wrote it but Elvis certainly sung it or a version of it.

I'm sorry to say I've come up empty; dug through Elvis lyrics to no avail. I hope another comes along who can help with it.

Hi Dahtodie, I believe this is the song you are looking for, by Johnny Cash. I'm not sure if Elvis ever recorded this...

Johnny Cash
I've Been Everywhere
Written by - Geoff Mack
From - Unchained
I was totin' my pack along the long dusty Winnamucka road
When along came a semi with a high canvas covered load
If your goin' to Winnamucka, Mack, with me you can ride
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, 'Listen! I've traveled every road in this here land'

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
Crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Travel...I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

It's Promised Land, an old Chuck Berry tune..

"I left my home in Norfolk, Virginia, California on my mind.
I straddled that Greyhound (bus) and rode it into Raleigh and on across Caroline..."

This was the song that Tommy Lee Jones played on the movie " Men in Black" when the car was flying up-side-down through the tunnel... and Will Smith said.. " you know Elvis is dead?" Tommy Lee said" He ain't dead.. he just went home" gotta love Elvis!

I left my home in Norfolk Virginia
California on my mind
I straddled that Greyhound
And rode into Raleigh
And on across Caroline

We had motor trouble that turn into a struggle
Halfway across Alabam'
And that hound broke down and left us all stranded
In downtown Birmingham

Right away I brought me a through train ticket
Ridin' across Mississippi clean
And I was on that midnight flyer out of Birmingham
Smoking into New Orleans

Somebody help me get out of Louisiana
Just to help me get to Houston Town
There are people there who care a little about me
And they won't let the poor boy down

Sure as you're born brought me a silk suit
Put luggage in my hand
And I woke up high over Alburquerque
On a jet to the promised land

Working on a T-bone steak a la carte
Flying over to the golden state
Ah when the pilot told us in thirteen minutes
He would set us at the terminal gate

Swing low chariot come down easy
Taxi to the terminal zone
Cut your engines and cool your wings
And let me make it to the telephone

Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia
Tidewater four ten o nine
Tell the folks back home this is the promised land calling
And the poor boy is on the line

Working on a T-bone steak a la carte
Flying over to the golden state
Ah when the pilot told us in thirteen minutes
He would set us at the terminal gate

Swing low chariot come down easy
Taxi to the terminal zone
Cut your engines and cool your wings
And let me make it to the telephone

Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia
Tidewater four ten o nine
Tell the folks back home this is the promised land calling
And the poor boy is on the line
