civil summond for automobile debt

An attorney from Louisville,Ky , had a civil summons sent to my door for debt owed on my f150 truck. The money owed was only like 1,100 dollars before and they originally offered to settle for like 700.00 but I didnt have the money at the time. Now I have a summons I guess and they want 1,469.00 dollars by the end of the month.I will have the money by the end of August but is their anyway I can delay proceedings until then?I could give them some money now but afraid they will still repo my truck or something. What do I do?

Hello CJ:

The truck you owe the debt on was already repoed. They can't get the one you drive now.

I'm sure that the original lender wrote the loan off. That doesn't mean it was worthless, however. They probably sold it to some bottom feeder for 10 cents on the dollar and they're trying to get anything they can.

Therefore, I think you can negotiate a deal for far less than they're asking for. You need to be able to send cash, though. They're not going to accept a payment plan. I'll becha you can get it resolved for around the $700 you originally agreed to.

If you don't settle, and you get a judgment against you, it's going to be a LOT higher than $1,469. And, I mean a LOT higher when you consider court costs and more legal fees. Then they'll garnish your wages and seize your bank account. Don't let them do that.
