    Maximum amount for emotional distress
How much can a person sue for emotional distress in Colorado? This person was in a abusive (physically and emotionally) relationship for almost a year. The ex-boyfriend said he would sell her a car and would sign the car over to her when it was paid. Every time the ex-boyfriend became agry he would kick her out of his house and tell her to leave the car immediately because he would report it stolen. The ex-boyfriend would threaten her life, her kids and anyone else she was close too. Now that she left him for good he wants her liable for the remainer of the car payments.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing any kind of lawsuit here for the emotional distress. She could have left of her own free will at any time but chose not to.

If she entered into an agreement to purchase his car he has every right to hold her liable for the remainder of the car payments. What does she expect? Him to give it to her for free? She entered into a contract to purchase it.

Also, if he hit, punched, kicked her she should have called the cops and had him arrested for this but it sounds like she didn't do that either.

You cannot collect emotional stress in a contract matter.

Like Twinkie, I see no emotional distress here at all. Bad judgment, perhaps, but no emotional distress.
