Ex owes money

I would really appreciate advise on this.
I have recently broken up with my boyfriend of five and a half years, and believe he owes me approx £1500-1800.( I have the long process of checking all bank statements still to do, but it is def at least 1500). This was for a period just before xmas when he could not work and i covered bills/loans etc.
My bank statements show transactions from my account to his and I also have many recent e-mails stating 'you will get the money' etc. Should this end up going to the small claims court will I have enough evidence that I am owed this?

Yes, sorry,in England..I hoped that a variey of opinions or experience would be offered.
I have seen similar posts where the response has suggested there is no proof of the money being anything other than a gift..I am hoping the e-mails will count as proof towards the money being owed?
