Ex girlfriend owes me $12,000 for money she borrowed for school
My ex girlfriend owes me $12,000 I borrowed to her to pay for her college when I was with her. How do I go about getting it back? She refuses to answer calls and e-mails I send asking nicely if she could pay me back even if it's a little at a time.

That's a lot of money to lend without supporting documents. I am assuming you didn't have her sign a note that this was a loan because you trusted her, right ?

I don't know if this is classed as a small claim for court or not but if it is you could take her to court if you have anything saying you did loan her this money.

Well you can sue her in court, all you have to prove is that it is a loan, not a gift. So you can provide some document showing she borrowed the money it should be easy

Do you have any documentation of this loan (besides cancelled checks?) A note specifying the details of the loan and repayment arrangements? If not, then the chances of getting it to carry any weight in a court of law are slim to none. "Cases" involving ex boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. issues are always fraught with emotion and generally have little or nothing to do with legal issues and judges know this. That said, most courts won't touch these with a 10-foot pole.

I think you should get a taperecorder and make some evidence of this. Always blind copy every email you send her... ALWAYS so you keep a record of how many times you have sent her this . And when you go see her, remember to get that taperecorder that you invested in - a really good one - just rent it - and have some proof. Women are sneaky

From what I heard anything under $5000.00 would be small claims. I think without any proof your screwed. That's probably why she hasn't e-mailed you back.
