Co-Applicant for Apartment - Now Collection Calling
    Hi everyone,

I few years back about 2002/2003 I co-applied with a friend for an apartment (I never lived their had my own place elsewhere only visited twice if that much). The person moved early but told me that they spoke with the super. Who intern spoke with management who said it was OK,but got nothing in writing. Now I have a collection agency calling saying that they got a judgement on my name for the unpaid rent and whatever else they have added and is threating to garnish my wages if I don't pay. The original person who lived there has since filed bankruptcy, which I assume is why they are bothering me after all these years.

Does anyone know can they actually garnish my wages and is there anything I can do? I don't have $5K to pay these people. Need help fast I would be really embarrassed if this was to happen since everything turns into gossip in our small office.

    Thanks,
    Desperate Lema

DID YOU SIGN THE LEASE? If you did, you are on the hook; if you did not, tell the collection agency to go away, and tell them you will sue them if they damage your credit.

    I agree with Dr. D

    Did you sign the lease?

Yes - you are on the hook.

No - tell them to get lost.
