what do painters charge per square ft. for one coat of paint on walls and ceilings on average?

That can depend on a number of factors. The location where you will be doing the work and the going rates around there. Whether the walls and ceilings are textured or not. How you will be applying the paint and how many coats you will be applying and if you would be applying a primer also.

Another thing that you might want to do is to put the words painter or painting into the search function on this site at the top of this page. There will be lots of threads where house painting and what to do concerning charges and a lot of other things are discussed.
