Your dont say what kind of business ? Is it a highly regulated business such as a stock broker firm, insurance agency, doctor office or medical clinic? For what purpose do you think it needs to be registered? Is it incorporated or a sole proprietor or partnership ? If it is incorporated then it's already registered with the Sec of State of the state it's domiciled in. Shed a little more light and perhaps me and others can assist you better.

Thanks for the response!
I do designing and sewing of clothes for women and children. I dont have employees so I dont need an EIN, but I was wondering how I let the world know about my company as registered buisness. Also I am thinking of LLC...since I read it is the safest bet...is that a wise choice. I usually have been doing taxes myself online,...but will hiring a tax consultant save me money?....I dont make much...probably 600 a month...my buisness is more like a hobby.

Please advise!
Thanks

FirstI don't see what you are trying to do, let the world know about your company?? You advertise, put adds in the newpaper, put a add in the yellow pages,

There is no such thing as as "registered" business, unless of course you are trying to do government contract bidding.

You can go to the city hall and get a business license, but the you will have to be sure the building you are using is also zoned for business.

And of course a LLC is good if you are concerned over someone sueing your business, to protect your personal property from being lost in a law suit.

A am a firm beleiver in Tax consultants, if you have alot of deductions that can be used against your income.

The only reason to register a name is to prevent someone else from using it. The only reason to register a business is if your locality requires that type of business be registered. The only reason to go the LLC or incorporated route is if you need to protect your personal assets from legal action.

I've been running a consulting biz on the side for almost 20 years. The only thing I did was get a business phone number so I would have a yellow pages ad. I file a Schedule C as a sole proprietorship.
