Not getting pregnant after the depo and stressing
Hi I am 21yrs. I got married in July of last year;) and stopped taking the depo in June and my husband and I have been trying since. I was on the depo for about 2years and didn't have my period(I loved that part!) It took 6months for me to get my period and now its been 5months of semi-regular periods. Its now almost a year since we began trying I am really stressed:( and beginning to get depressed about it. I have 2 beautiful step children 7 and 5:rolleyes: but I really want to go through a pregnancy and be able to have a baby! What's worse is that my younger sister who is definitely not ready to be a parent is 5months pregnant and she wasn't even trying:( . I am trying so hard to be supportive of her :o and not get depressed about not getting pregnant but with every period and great thing for my little sister I get a slap in the face. My sister doesn't know how much its been affecting me and I am honestly really very happy for her and supportive but I need my best friend to help me through this. Any advise?:o

All you can do is see a fertility specialist.

Being on something that stops your period, I would imagine, has a lot to do with you not getting pregnant right away. You had said that for 5 months your period isn't regular.
So it is possible your ovulation isn't either.
I don't know that you could "count" the 1st 6 months as trying - since you weren't getting a period you probably were not ovulating. Start tracking your cycle each month - it will give you a better understanding of your body. You could also get an ovulation kit.
I would go to see your dr. and see what he says. Normally, they will not medically intervene unless you have been trying for a year. You could see what there view is with this and your birthcontrol. Also, start taking prenatal vitamins. Your body needs the extra folic acid (400mg a day).
Lastly, the more you stress the harder it will be to become pregnant. So, it will happen - just be patient. If I had to guess, I would say this has everything to do with the birthcontrol you have used.

I was on depo on an off for three years. You will not be fertile again anywhere from 12mo to 18mo. I hated the depo. It did really weird things to my body like gaining 75lbs. Your body is not done with the hormones from the shot quite yet. Quit stressing it will only prolong the time you have to wait to get pregnant. Have fun with the trying!! That's what will help you. Just relax and let it happen as it will happen.

One thing you can be grateful for is that you do have your periods, and that they are semi regular. (esp after being on it for 2 years, and not having a period) The depo is on my hate list, also. I was only on it for 6 months, and I had to stop because of the awful stuff it did to my body(including losing half an inch of my height, and 1 full shoe size, and many other nastys). It was 18 months after that that I finally got pregnant(which is the time range doctors tell you. They say that it can take around 18+- months to get pregnant after your last shot.) You are lucky that your periods have come back and started to get regular. Just try to sit back and relax, make sure you are taking prenatals (atleast calcium supplements and folic acid as well. Prenatals are easier, since they have everything in them already, set to the average right dosage.) Get a pre-conception check up to make sure all is well, and ready physically to get pregnant(that way if anything needs to be taken care of medically before you get pregnant, you can take care of it right away with proper meds, etc that might not be advised for during pregnancy, etc.) Got my fingers crossed for you hun, I hope it works out well for you soon!

I was on depo for six months and got off due to the 60 pound weight gain. It took my husband and I three years to become pregnant. The depo shot does horrible things to your body! Don't stress about it.

Are you taking ovulation tests at all? If not I would go get a pack of them. Give it a few more months of trying and if you still get nothing make an appointment with your doctor to ease your mind.

As far as your sister goes, there is not much you can do, just know that your time will come.

Again just don't stress! I went through the same thing and was terrified I would never have a baby, and now I have a beautiful 7 month old little girl.

Just remember depo sucks!! And your time will come! Good luck!

The depo provera is hell in injection form.

I bled for 8 weeks straight. How lovely... NOT!
I also gained weight, had horrid mood swings, oh gosh I hated it!

The depo also causes bone deformities. So never again will I take it.

You should have been given the information about the consequences the depo causes.
It says that it could take up to two years to get pregnant again. But in some cases with people, even longer. :(
