Music. The only the thing that keeps you going.
For most people, being alone during a break up is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself. It is advised that you go work-out, play basketball, go out with your friends, etc. But whenever you have spare time, you don't want to lock yourself up in a room and cry.

Music gets me through the pain a little easier. Im not sure if this is true for everybody. But sometimes, sad songs generate a sense of hope that soothes the pain of the break up. Listening to these songs had helped soothe my pain and maintain the no-contact (2 days so far and I feel like dying... :o ).

Tip: Try not listening to you and your ex's song

I guess my question is, what songs do you guys listen to at the time where you're most fragile?

Remember, without the sad stuff, we'd never appreciate the good.

Coldplay sing some great songs and when I was going through my break up it seemed to be what I had in my CD player the most.

Funny story too. But about the time I was going through my break up with my ex that miserable pratt James Blunt bought that song 'Goodbye My Lover" out. Every time I turned the radio on it was on. It literally seemed like whatever radio station I put it on, it was playing, or coming up. I was sick of the sound of it but the words applied so much to my situation. I was so sick of hearing all his songs though. They are so miserable!

JAMES BLUNT - GOODBYE MY LOVER Lyrics

Arrggh.. Makes me want to puke now!

But if I feel like I need I bit of pumping up ill listen to ACDC. They always seem to have me jumping around and full of energy. Them and Wolfmother, who I might add took home one of your Grammy awards last week. I tried to tell people they were good!

Oh Skell that had to be tough. I actually love James Blunt. I think his other one that got so much play time, was You are beautiful, another heartbreaker though.

It was tough. I just remember driving along and then all of a sudden it was on again. It was like the whole radio world was trying to remind me! LOL!!

I don't dislike him but I've always been a bit of a rock man. But he does sing some nice songs. Can't believe I just said that! "Nice" songs!! LOL!

Coldplay is a good pick. My favorite by them is "Warning Sign".
The Beatles - Let it Be
Something Corporate - Watch the Sky <-- very uplifting
Dashboard Confessional - Screaming Infidelities, The Ghost of a Good Thing
    Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
Nearly anything by Death Cab for Cutie

Haha that james blunt "goodbye my lover song" could not have come out at a worse time for me. Not only was it exactly how I felt, but my boyfriend had the nerve to call me one night and tell me it was everything he felt too... even though he broke up with me! BLAH!

Thanks for reminding me about the hallelujah song! I LOVE it!

Oh skell we had exactly the same breakup songs lol coldplay x+y and james blunt lol!
yes james blunt makes me puke now, still listen to coldplay though.
the 'hardest part' lyrics were fantastic!I must have listened to it 1000 times

I totally agree, music got me through the first month, that was all I could do.
also meatloaf 'is nothing sacred' is a great song

"I can hear the final words
    Every sentence that was said
Don't know what turned our lives around.

It doesn't matter who was right,
There's no justice in a dream.
Never thought a heart could break
    Without making any sound.

    Is nothing sacred anymore?
    Is forever just another word?
Is a promise something people used to keep
When love was worth fighting for?

    If we can say good-bye,
    If we can say good-bye,

    Is nothing sacred anymore?"

I listened to Kelly Clarkson the album 'Brekaway' which is very apt for a breakup situation. I found this great, I walked about with my headphones in all the time. I also bought loads of new cds and listened to them, they are nothing to do with my ex.

I was lucky all that James Blunt stuff came out before we broke up! But I hated it too, so depressing. I also don't like hearing Katie Tunstall and The Kooks, as my ex listened to them a lot, and when we were on holiday, after breaking up, that's what he listened to. Months before he said the KT Tunstall album made him think of me.
