is it a sin to be proud of your children?
My bible professors tell us that you should never tell you child you are proud of them. One said he tells his children he's grateful for their accomplishments.

There's sinful pride, and there's healthy pride.
I'm a preacher's daughter and have always made sure my sons know I'm proud of them, especially naming specifics. (And my parents were proud of me and my sibs, and made sure we knew it.)
If you puff out your chest and brag endlessly to everyone about your children and, in the process, put down others' children, either explicitly or implicitly, that's the wrong kind of pride.

Not in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with that.
However, I think that's just a nuanced way of saying he is proud of their accomplishments.
Pride in anything, children, self, accomplishments etc. is not wrong, unless it is to the exclusion of God.
If you are proud of yourself and your response is to say, "Thank you God!" Then your pride is healthy.
Of course, there is also the type of haughty pride which claims that God has favored you over other people. That is also unhealthy and is explained in the parable by Jesus:
Luke 18:
10Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
This is spiritual pride and is a sin against the Holy Spirit.

Here's my thought on Pride. It is wrong to brag about achievements and be 'proud' in that way. But I always felt my self-esteem raise so much higher when my parents are saying they are proud of a certain decision I've made, or proud of who I am today. However, I don't think it's a sinful proud (If it was, my parents wouldn't' express it in that way, as one is a pastor and the other does ministeral work) I think of it more of them saying they approve of my choices, and are happy about who I am. It's not like they're proud of me in a way that's like, "See this God? I raised MY children to be like this... you had nothing to do with it!" I think that type of pride is wrong... when pride gets in the way of your appreciation towards God's hand in things. (that felt like rambling a bit.. ah well. )

Where in the world does he come from anyway. Yes, be proud of your children. God said this is my beloved Son and he is very proud of Him.
